FaceTime and a new roommate...

It has only been a week since Peter has left but it feels like it's been a lot longer.  Thank goodness for FaceTime!  When we get homesick for each other, all we have to do is push a button and we'll be making faces, trying to cheer each other up. While it's not the same as actually being together, it seems to help.

In the meantime, I found myself a temporary roommate!

My brother, Michael, has been nice enough to offer me Lil' Mike for the week to keep me from being too lonely.   And I've got to say, that little pooch has helped a BUNCH!  I've had so much fun goofing off with him but some days, he's content with just cuddling up with me and having me carry him to bed.  He's become my special buddy and I'm grateful to spend so much time with him.

Still wish I was cuddling with Peter though...

Goodbye Peter :(

It's pretty easy to say that dropping Peter off at the airport was the worst thing I have ever had to do.  If he didn't have such a brave face on for me, I would have been a bigger mess than I already was.

This is going to be a long three months.

Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and everything in between...

A lot has happened since our vacation to Atlanta, GA.  In fact, so much has happened, that I have just now remembered that I need to update again.

September: School started for Peter and I, which was a major bummer for us, but then we discovered that Peter's sister, Lisa would be living on an air mattress in our spare room for four months, which was the opposite of a major bummer.

October: Lori, Lisa, Peter, and I loved spending time with our friends, Chad and Kylie along with their little one, Brynn.  We had lots of bonfires and fun four wheeling on their family's property.

Of course, with Halloween just around the corner, we had to get our friends, James and his lovely wife Kayle, together and continue our new tradition of having a pumpkin carving contest.

I may be biased, but I believe Peter won :)

Right before Halloween though, we got the opportunity to go to Utah and see our dear friend, Bobby, and his lovely bride, Lisa, before they both headed back to Korea to continue serving our country.

Just like the good ol' days!

Halloween finally showed up and, while I'm never a huge fan of the holiday, I did enjoy dressing up as Little Red Riding Hood while Peter may have had too much fun being a psycho.

November: The month of gratitude!  I loved seeing fall finally show up and think of all of the things that I am thankful for.  I had to work so Peter and I spent Thanksgiving at our apartment.  I started the morning making crepes for breakfast;

The display isn't anything you would see in a Better Home and Garden magazine, but it was still delicious!

after stuffing ourselves with fruit and Nutella, we went to see 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' (awesome movie!), then came back to enjoy our small, but delectable Thanksgiving feast.

December: I believe this was our favorite month of 2013 and for many reasons.
Reason #1-Peter finished up a very stressful semester of very intense accounting classes and trying to find an internship (wooohoooo! South Carolina!).
Reason #2- I finished up my last semester of classes!  Now I just have to pass a few tests, do my student teaching, and I'll be home free!
Reason #3- We were about to visit family that we haven't seen in a while.
Reason #4- Because it was CHRISTMAS!

We spent Christmas with my family this year, we enjoyed a wonderful Christmas eve dinner prepared by my mom, and enjoyed a night of games and watching each others 'talents'.

Before we knew it, Christmas day came.  The morning was full of generous gifts from loving parents, siblings, and spouses.

Lil' Mike had a very Merry Christmas! (yes, that large hook is a bone)

We spent the rest of the day enjoying gifts, watching movies, solving puzzles, and playing games.

After Christmas, we traveled an hour south to celebrate the holidays with the Barnes clan.  We enjoyed catching up with family we haven't seen in a long time, and were constantly entertained by the little ones.

We threw a couple of gatherings for extended family as well.  On New Year's eve, we had fun playing reverse charades with Tyler's family.

After staying up as late as we could, we finally celebrated the New Year and hit the hay.

New Year's Day was spent with Kevin, Jan, and their family.  We haven't seen them in a while so it was great catching up with them.

Enjoying good grub and each other's company was the best way to end 2013.  But while we were caught up in the festivities, I couldn't help but keep thinking about Peter leaving for his internship in South Carolina.  I was excited for this opportunity for him, but at the same time dreading it.  The start of 2014 meant spending the first three months away from Peter.
